System Keys protect
against unauthorized CPS-programming
of certain Trunking System
and Trunking Personality
Key Protected Fields, and Advanced Conventional
Keys allow for certain Conventional feature access. Hardware-based System
Keys are also known as "Advanced Keys".

Key Types Include:
(Hardware)
Advanced System Keys (ASKs) and Advanced WACN Keys (AWKs) are Key-Device-based and allow for
CPS-programmer restrictions or access to
Key
Protected Fields. The Advanced
Keys Administrator program allows for customizing of field restrictions
or access, field range inputs and radio Write
Protection.
Advanced
System Keys are required to fully program radios that communicate
within all Trunking System
Coverage Types except
“Intra-WACN Roaming”. ASKs are assigned to the appropriate Trunking
System from the System ID field.
Trunking Personality protected fields are controlled by the System
Key selected by its
referenced
Trunking System.
Advanced
WACN Keys are required to fully program radios that communicate
(roam) within certain non-Motorola
Wide Area Communications Networks (WACNs). AWKs
are assigned to the appropriate WACNs from the Home WACN ID field. AWKs are only applicable
when “Intra-WACN Roaming” is the selected Coverage
Type. Also See: The Intra-WACN Roaming Keystone Concept. Trunking Personality
protected fields are controlled by the System Key selected by its
referenced
Trunking System.
When an Advanced Conventional Key's (ACKs) having a Key ID matching the CPS's Conventional Customer ID, a radio is then capable of Tactical Inhibit "Stun" and "Kill" functionality. Regardless of the Key ID number, all Conventional Keys allow for CPS to Radio Conventional Programming Over Project 25 (POP25) communications (see Communication Method). ACKs always have "Unlimited Access", however Write Protecting a radio is not possible with Advanced Conventional Keys.
Software
Keys are file-based (*.key)
System Keys that allow "Unlimited Access" to
Key
Protected Fields. Software
System Keys are assigned to the appropriate Trunking System from
the System ID field.
When the ASK Required field is available,
it must be Disabled
to allow the use of Software System Keys; certain
radio models / options may allow Software System Keys without the ASK
Required field setting.
Automatically Loading Keys into the CPS:
(Hardware) Advanced System Keys and Advanced WACN Keys are automatically loaded every time the CPS is opened when a Key Device is properly attached.
Software System Keys are automatically loaded when the Software Key Files Location feature is set to the appropriate folder.
Manually Loading Keys into the CPS:
